About Me

My services are based on the belief that your needs are of the utmost importance. My way of working is committed to meeting those needs.

I usually work using the person-centred approach. which is one of the 4 main approaches used in counselling today. It is very flexible and user-friendly. In this approach, you and I work together to help you to help yourself. Everything we do will be focused on what you want to do, and when you want to do it. This means that if there is something you find difficult to talk about, we will wait until you are ready to do so (but not avoid it). I focus on you, not just your problem.

I am also qualified to work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which has a more structured approach and generally is the therapy of choice in the NHS.

I have a Masters Degree in counselling, which followed my Advanced Diploma in counselling. The Diploma qualified me to work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.

I have been working with people and their problems for around 25 years - in the public sector and now in private practice. Working in the public sector brought me into contact with many cases of work-related stress, depression, harassment, bullying, and health-related issues. Also, long-term work with post- traumatic stress disorder and sexual abuse. I have a lot of experience of working with anxiety and depression and more recently I have been working with people with weight management issues.

When working with weight management, I look at the psychology behind overeating and how to overcome individual psychological barriers to eating healthily. I run groups specifically for men and also for diabetics.

Overall, I have worked with a vast array people with a wide range of issues.
